A Friendship Across Half a Century: Mr. Nguyen and His Lifelong Friends’ Tea Country Adventure

A Friendship Across Half a Century: Mr. Nguyen and His Lifelong Friends’ Tea Country Adventure

When we first received the inquiry from Mr. Nguyen, we were pleasantly surprised. While many Vietnamese travelers visiting Taiwan prefer solo travel, Mr. Nguyen was looking to organize a private group tour for 20 people. As we got to know them, we realized this wasn't just a standard tour—it was a celebration of a friendship that has spanned decades.

A Friendship Across Half a Century: Mr. Nguyen and His Lifelong Friends’ Tea Country Adventure

Receiving the inquiry from Mr. Nguyen was a wonderful surprise. Although solo travel is the most common choice for Vietnamese visitors to Taiwan, Mr. Nguyen was planning a private group experience for 20 guests. It soon became clear that this was more than a typical vacation—it was a tribute to a friendship lasting several decades.

Since the group was visiting Taiwan as part of a cruise stop, time was of the essence. We designed a specialized itinerary starting from Northern Taiwan that perfectly blended local culture with natural beauty:

Chengzhong Market

At the group's special request to find "Qipao" (traditional dresses), we took them to this authentic local market. It was a joy to see them picking out beautiful garments and sampling traditional Taiwanese street snacks along the way.

Shiding Thousand Island Lake

Bagua Tea Plantation

We headed into the mountains to witness the breathtaking scenery of the turquoise water and emerald tea rows.

The Extra Mile: Because the narrow, winding industrial roads in Shiding are inaccessible to standard medium-sized buses, we arranged private 9-seater shuttles to ensure everyone could reach the viewpoints comfortably and safely.

Pinglin Tea Museum

A deep dive into the rich history and aroma of Taiwan’s world-renowned tea culture.

Shilin Night Market

We ended the day amidst the vibrant lights and delicious flavors of one of Taipei's most iconic night markets.

After the tour, our guide shared a touching detail about this group: these twenty friends all immigrated from Vietnam to Texas, USA, about 40 to 50 years ago.

Having built successful lives in the United States from the ground up, they have remained incredibly close-knit over the years. To celebrate their bond and their hard-earned success, they made a pact to travel the world together four times every year. Seeing them laugh and take photos among the tea trees, it was clear that their unity is their greatest strength.
