This unforgettable story dates back to December 2023, when we received an inquiry from Ms. K, a Chinese-American traveler from the United States. She wanted to plan a trip to Central Taiwan for her family.
During the initial planning, Ms. K specifically requested visiting Miaoli, Taichung, and... Changhua. For international travelers, Changhua is often not a primary tourist destination, which piqued our curiosity. However, as our service is centered around customized itineraries, fulfilling our client's wishes is always our priority!
A customized tour to Miaoli,Changhua
Based on Ms. K’s family interests, we meticulously designed a unique itinerary:
Miaoli: Fun & Local Delights

We arranged the popular Shen'ao Rail Bike (a hit with both adults and kids) and, since it was peak season in December, a visit to Ginger Garden for strawberry picking—a fun, hands-on activity for everyone.
1.Shen-Ao Rail Bike: This attraction utilizes a section of the former Taiwan Railway Shen'ao Branch Line, converted into a route for riding cute electric rail bikes. The 1.3 km ride between Badouzi and Shen'ao stations takes about 20 minutes, offering stunning views where the northern coast meets the mountains and the sea. The area around the stations offers additional spots like the National Museum of Marine Science and Technology, Chaojing Park, and Shen'ao Fishing Port.
- Address:Shengxing Station or Longteng Station
- Operating Hours:08:30 - 17:30
- Entrance Fee:NT$230 - 285
2.Jiangmayuan (Ginger Garden): Located at the border of Dahu and Sanyi Townships, this Hakka farming community is historically famous for growing and selling ginger (known as "Jiangma" in Hakka). Today, it is a transformed leisure farm area that combines natural beauty, specialty agricultural products, Hakka cuisine, and farm experiences. They even tried a special "aged ginger foot steam bath"!
- Address:No. 13-3, Jiǎngmáyuan, Lilin Village, Dahu Township, Miaoli County
- Operating Hours:08:00 – 17:00
- Entrance Fee:Free
Changhua: History & Rail Charm

Lukang Old Town & Changhua Roundhouse: We planned a visit to the historic Lukang Old Town for a taste of Taiwanese heritage. Crucially, knowing their child was a train enthusiast, we specially arranged a guided tour of the Changhua Roundhouse, letting the children experience the magic of locomotives up close.
Lukang Old Town Stroll:
- Lukang Tianhou Temple (approx. 30 mins): Starting at this national monument and spiritual heart of Lukang helps visitors absorb the unique religious atmosphere and is convenient for parking before the walking tour.
- Lukang Old Street (approx. 1 hour): Turning from Zhongshan Road into Yaolin or Putou Street leads into the old quarter. Visitors can enjoy a leisurely walk, admire the charming red-brick houses, and browse traditional craft shops or taste local snacks.

- Moru Lane (approx. 15 mins): Walking through this famous, narrow "Breast Touching Lane" is a must-do fun photo opportunity in Lukang.
- Wang Mang or Qiuyin Longshan Vermicelli Paste (approx. 30 mins): After the old street, guests can try this local breakfast and snack delicacy, known for its light, traditional flavor.
- Lukang Longshan Temple (approx. 45 mins): This national monument, praised as the "Temple of Taiwanese Traditional Architectural Art," offers exquisite architecture and carvings.
- Guihua Lane Art Village or Folk Arts Museum (optional 45 mins): Further options include viewing painted art and creative shops, or exploring local history in depth.
- Changhua Roundhouse
- Address:No. 1, Zhanghua Dist., Changhua City, Changhua County 500, Taiwan
- Operating Hours:Monday - Closed / Tue - Fri 13:00 - 16:00 / Weekends 10:00 - 16:00

The Special Request and the Meaningful Visit

Just as the itinerary was finalized, Ms. K sent one last email with two very specific requests for Changhua: she hoped to stop briefly at a particular hospital and a kindergarten.
It was at that moment our initial curiosity was answered. This Taiwan trip was profoundly meaningful: it was the first time the family was bringing their adopted son back to his birthplace for a "Roots Journey." The adoption had taken place in Changhua many years ago. And that hospital and kindergarten were the places where their son was born and spent his early childhood.
This was no ordinary vacation; it was a heartwarming trip home.
In the end, Ms. K’s family successfully completed their trip filled with love. They enjoyed sweet strawberries, delicious Hakka cuisine in Miaoli, and experienced the historical charm of Lukang.
We were truly honored to be the planners and witnesses of this tender memory. Thank you, Ms. K and family, for trusting us with your son’s journey back to his roots.
