Behind every journey lies a heart that wants to share the very best scenery with loved ones. In the autumn of 2023, we received a message from Mr. Yeh. He was looking to prepare a surprise for his relatives, who have long been settled in Japan and were returning to Taiwan for a rare year-end holiday. This sudden leap of faith allowed us to become the architects of this family reunion, transforming longing and hospitality into a three-day record of slow-living by the mountains and sea.

For friends and family returning from abroad, the landscapes of Hualien and Taitung are the finest "calling cards" to reintroduce the beauty of Taiwan. We meticulously designed a three-day itinerary that journeys from majestic gorges to serene rift valleys, concluding in the warmth of healing hot springs. This trip wasn't about rushing; it was about chasing away fatigue.

DAY 1: Stepping into Nature’s Masterpiece

Our first stop was the breathtaking Taroko National Park. We guided Mr. Yeh’s family through the vibrant blues of Qingshui Cliff, the profound depths of Swallow Grotto, and the rhythmic waves of Chishingtan Beach. It was a day to witness the breathtaking power of nature and Taiwan’s most iconic eastern vistas.

Note: Due to the 2024 earthquake, some areas of Taroko are currently restricted. For a list of currently accessible spots, please refer to our editor’s guide here:

DAY 2: A Pastoral Symphony in the Rift Valley

Heading south from Hualien, we bypassed the coastline in favor of the soothing East Rift Valley. Here, the pace of life slows even further. We observed the pulse of the ecosystem at Mataian Wetland and indulged in a "forest bath" at Fuyuan National Forest Recreation Area. The vast rice paddies and rolling mountain ranges allowed our guests to capture a sense of pure tranquility through every window.

DAY 3: Taitung’s Warm Sun and Fresh Milk

On our final day, we admired the sea at Sanxiantai and cycled through the golden waves of rice at Mr. Brown Avenue. As the winter air turned crisp, the sodium bicarbonate springs of Hongye Valley provided the perfect "warm" finale to the trip. Of course, no visit is complete without a glass of the freshest milk at Chu Lu Ranch, leaving smiles on the faces of both the adults and the little ones.

Mr. Yeh later shared with us how relaxed the whole family felt throughout the experience. We understand that when you act as both the "driver" and the "planner" during a trip, it is often impossible to fully enjoy the journey yourself.

The mission of RTR (Round Taiwan Round) is simple: to solve every transport and itinerary hassle for our travelers. You simply hand us your preferences and ideas, and we protect your journey from behind the scenes—handling everything from accommodation and route planning to real-time road condition monitoring. We are deeply grateful for Mr. Yeh’s trust, which gave the RTR team the opportunity to witness this beautiful cross-border family reunion on the soil of Hualien and Taitung.
