💡 2026 Dharma Drum Mountain Essential Travel Guide
- Must-See Highlights: Wish-Fulfilling Guanyin Hall (Water curtain landscape), Dharma Flower Bell Tower (The world’s largest bronze bell), and the Founding Memorial Hall.
- Food Recommendations: Public lunch at Wu-Guan Hall (experience "blessing meals"), Water Drop Tea House, and vegetarian Ba-wan (meatless meatballs) at the nearby Jinshan Old Street.
- Suggested Transportation: RTR Private Car Service (Highly recommended to avoid transit fatigue) or Kuo-Kuang Bus 1815 (departing from Taipei Main Station).
- Visiting Time: Budget 3–4 hours. Avoid major Dharma assemblies (usually weekends) for a more tranquil experience.
- Dress Code: Please dress modestly (long pants, no sleeveless tops). Wear easy-to-remove walking shoes, as you must de-shoe before entering the halls.
💡 Editor’s Note: DDM is located at a higher altitude where temperatures fluctuate. Even in summer, bring a light long-sleeved shirt for sun protection and to avoid catching a cold in the air-conditioned interiors!
2026 Dharma Drum Mountain: Attraction Analysis
Grand Hall

The heart of the campus, housing the Trikaya Buddhas. The architecture uses heavy stone to create a sense of eternal stability. The surrounding corridors are the best spots to observe the beautiful play of light and shadow.
Wish-Fulfilling Guanyin Hall

The most popular spot on campus. A crystal-clear pool sits before the hall, reflecting the sky to create a Zen atmosphere of "the moon in the water, a flower in the air." Many visitors write wish cards here to pray to Guanyin Bodhisattva.
Dharma Flower Bell Tower

Perched high on the campus, it houses a 25-ton bronze bell inscribed with the entire Lotus Sutra. The tower offers an expansive view overlooking the North Coast.
Three-Circle Pilgrimage Trails

The campus features several forest trails, such as the "Wish-Fulfilling Trail" and "Pilgrimage Trail." Surrounded by streams and birdsong, these paths remain cool even during the peak of summer.
2026 Transportation Guide: Public Transit vs. Private Car
For Self-Drivers
- Yangjin Highway: Take Route 2A from Beitou/Yangmingshan → Danjin Highway → DDM.
- Sun Yat-sen Freeway (Hwy 1): Take Hwy 1 → Route 62 Expressway → Wanli → Danjin Highway → DDM.
- Formosa Freeway (Hwy 3): Exit at Wanli Interchange → Zhongshan Rd. → Jijin Highway → DDM.
Note on Shuttle Buses
Visitors must park in the main parking lot and enter via walking, pilgrimage, or the campus shuttle bus (9:00 AM – 4:00 PM).
Public Transportation
- From Taipei: Take Kuo-Kuang Bus 1815 (bound for Jinshan) from Taipei Main Station or Zhongshot Dunhua. It stops directly at the DDM main gate.
- From Tamsui: Take Bus 862 or 863 to Jinshan, then transfer to the DDM shuttle.
- Alternative Transfers: You may also take the following buses and transfer to Kuo-Kuang Bus 1815:
- Tamsui Bus 863 (Tamsui — Jinshan). Get off at: Qingshui Station.
- Keelung/Tamsui Bus 862 (Keelung — Tamsui). Get off at: Qingshui Station.
- Keelung Bus 790 (Jinshan — Keelung). Get off at: Jinshan District Office Station.
RTR Private Car Direct (The Most Stress-Free Option)
💡 Editor’s Note: Jinshan buses are often packed on weekends. If traveling with seniors, I highly recommend RTR Private Car Service. Let your parents nap in a comfortable air-conditioned car and arrive directly at the entrance, saving their energy for the beautiful mountain trails.
Why RTR Private Car is the smartest choice for 2026:
- Skip the Bus Queues: The bus ride takes about 90 minutes and is often standing-room only. With a private car, you depart from your hotel door and wake up to the mountain views of Jinshan.
- Save Your Energy: The DDM campus is vast. While there are internal shuttles, they follow a schedule. Our private car drops you at the most convenient points, minimizing unnecessary walking for elderly travelers.
- One-Stop North Coast Tour: Public buses make it hard to see two major spots in one day. With a private car, you can:
- Morning: Purify the soul at Dharma Drum Mountain.
- Lunch: Enjoy vegetarian snacks at Jinshan Old Street.
- Afternoon: Visit the Juming Museum for stunning outdoor sculptures or Yehliu Geopark to see the Queen’s Head.

RTR Editor’s Review: Listen to the Water, Meet Yourself
Visiting the Jinshan headquarters, I was struck not by the grandeur of the buildings, but by the "sound." Founder Master Sheng Yen once said this land is a great place to "listen to the water." Standing before the Wish-Fulfilling Guanyin Hall, watching the still water and listening to the distant stream, my troubled mind miraculously calmed down. Whether you have a religious belief or not, this is a perfect place to walk and reflect. The transportation is thoughtful, and the scenery is breathtaking. If your health allows, I highly recommend walking up the mountain with your family!
