Discover Fengchia Night Market: Taichung’s Iconic Food Destination

Fengchia Night Market is the largest night market in Taichung, earning its name from its proximity to Fengchia University. With hundreds of stalls and shops lining the streets from Wenhua Road to Fuxing Road, it was once ranked alongside Keelung Miaokou as "Taiwan's Most Delicious Night Market."
Today, it stands as one of Taichung's Top 10 tourist attractions and remains a beloved destination for travelers. Its immense popularity is reflected in its foot traffic: it welcomes approximately 30,000 visitors on weekdays and over 100,000 on weekends and holidays, solidifying its status as a must-visit location in the city.
As individual vendors do not follow a unified set of opening hours, we recommend checking the specific times for any "must-visit" stalls beforehand. The peak hours are from 7:00 PM to 10:00 PM—the ideal window to immerse yourself in the market's high-energy atmosphere. To avoid the heaviest crowds, consider arriving earlier around 6:00 PM or visiting on a weekday evening. It is also advisable to avoid major public holidays in Taiwan, as the area can become exceptionally crowded.
How to Get to Fengchia Night Market

Most international travelers arrive in Taichung via the High-Speed Rail (HSR) or from Taoyuan International Airport (TPE).
From Taoyuan International Airport (TPE):
- Take the Airport MRT to Taoyuan HSR Station (approx. 20 mins).
- Take the HSR south to Taichung HSR Station (approx. 40 mins).
From Taichung HSR / Train Station to the Night Market:
- Public Bus: From the HSR station, take Bus 160. It drops you off at the Fengchia University stop.
- MRT: We generally do not recommend the Taichung MRT for this destination, as the nearest station (Wenxin Yinghua) still requires a 20-minute walk.
- Private Car/Taxi: A taxi from the HSR station takes about 20 minutes and costs roughly TWD 300–400. For those traveling with luggage or in a group, a pre-booked private charter (like Tripool) is the most efficient way to go directly from the airport or HSR to your hotel near the market.

International travelers often have limited time in Taichung. To maximize your day before ending at the night market, we recommend this efficient 8-hour loop:
- 12:00 PM: Start at Miyahara. Admire the Hogwarts-style architecture and grab their famous ice cream.
- 02:00 PM: Visit Rainbow Village to see the colorful murals created by the "Rainbow Grandpa."
- 03:30 PM: Stop by the National Taichung Theater, an architectural marvel designed by Toyo Ito.
- 05:00 PM: Catch the sunset at Gaomei Wetlands. The boardwalk offers one of Taiwan’s most beautiful views.
- 07:00 PM: Arrive at Fengchia Night Market for dinner and shopping.
Note: Since these spots are spread across the city, using a private car charter is the only way to complete this route comfortably in a single day without waiting for multiple buses.

- Luggage Storage: If you haven’t checked into your hotel, there are coin lockers located at Carrefour (Qinghai Store) on the 3rd floor.
- Peak Hours: The market is most vibrant between 7:00 PM and 10:00 PM. If you prefer to avoid heavy crowds, aim to arrive right at 6:00 PM.
- Stay Connected: Use a "EasyCard" or "iPass" for bus transport; it makes hopping on and off much faster.
