A Dream Across the Sea: A Cloud-Top Challenge for South Korean Seniors

A Dream Across the Sea: A Cloud-Top Challenge for South Korean Seniors

In Taiwan, there is a specific outdoor dream known as "Baiyue" (The 100 Peaks). In late 2023, we were contacted by Mr. E from South Korea. He wanted to organize a one-day Hehuanshan expedition for his father and a group of friends. While most travelers are accustomed to urban exploration, our team takes the greatest pride in guiding international friends into the clouds at altitudes exceeding 3,000 meters. This was more than just a car charter; it was a customized "dream-fulfilling" mission centered on courage, stamina, and the breathtaking beauty of Taiwan.

For those new to Taiwan’s mountains, you might wonder: What exactly is "Baiyue"? Taiwan is home to over 200 mountains that soar above 3,000 meters. Pioneers selected 100 of these peaks—chosen for their prominence, stunning scenery, and unique characteristics—and collectively named them the "100 Peaks of Taiwan" (Baiyue). Conquering these peaks is the ultimate goal for local hikers and has recently become a "must-do" list for international outdoor enthusiasts.

The difficulty of the Hehuanshan peaks lies not in the "climbing" itself, but in the thin air at high altitudes. The route we planned for Mr. E’s father was rigorous yet filled with wonder:

Hehuan Main Peak

  • Altitude:3,417m
  • Features a gentle, well-paved path with incredibly vast views. It is the best spot to admire the surrounding mountain ranges.
  • Round trip: approx. 1.5–2 hours.

Hehuan East Peak

  • Altitude:3,421m
  • Famous for its wooden stairs that seem to lead straight into the sky. While it tests your leg strength, the summit offers a bird's-eye view of the highway winding through the mountains like a silk ribbon.
  • Round trip: approx. 2–2.5 hours.

Mt. Shimen

  • Altitude:3,237m
  • Known as the "most accessible Baiyue." A short 700-meter trail allows travelers to easily claim their very first "100 Peaks" achievement.
  • Round trip: approx. 30–40 minutes.

Bonus Spot - Mt. Hehuan Point

Although not officially a "Baiyue," its steep, pyramidal peak offers a fun "scrambling" experience for outdoor lovers and provides an unparalleled view of the Hehuan Mountain Villa.

Many people assume that a "one-day car charter" is limited to visiting old streets or standard tourist spots. In reality, a day trip can be incredibly exhilarating! What thrilled us most about this journey was the incredible stamina and perseverance shown by Mr. E’s father and his friends—they successfully conquered three "100 Peaks" in a single day. When we received the photos of these seniors laughing heartily at the 3,000-meter summit, we were reminded that this sense of accomplishment is the true meaning of our work.

A Friendly Reminder: While Taiwan is blessed with abundant natural resources, high altitudes mean lower air pressure and rapidly changing weather. We urge every traveler to evaluate their physical condition and stamina (especially cardio-respiratory health) before setting out. Our role is to provide professional advice based on your situation, ensuring you "climb within your limits" to bring home the safest and most perfect memories.

Booking your flight is the first step toward exploring the vibrant night markets, stunning mountains, and world-class hospitality that Taiwan offers. Whether you are looking for the luxury of a full-service carrier or the efficiency of a regional LCC, there is a route that fits your needs.
