Snow Mountain

Attraction stories

Snow Mountain (雪山) is the second highest peak in Taiwan and is a popular destination for many hikers visiting the island. It features the most beautiful trailhead, a mysterious black forest, and stunning and expansive cirques. Hikers come here to witness the sunrise and sea of clouds at the main peak, as well as the serene Cui Pond. Completing the full Snow Mountain (雪山) route typically takes about three days.

There are two accommodation options on the mountain, Qika Cabin and 369 Hut, both of which require advance reservation and a lottery system to confirm bed availability. Outside the huts, camping permits can also be obtained for those who wish to stay in tents.

The complete Snow Mountain (雪山) climbing route is as follows: Snow Mountain (雪山) Trailhead → (2km, 60 minutes) → Seven Card Mountain Hut → (3km, 250 minutes) → Snow Mountain (雪山) East Peak → (2.1km, 50 minutes) → 369 Hut → (2.7km, 140 minutes) → Snow Mountain (雪山) Cirque → (1.1km, 60 minutes) → Snow Mountain (雪山) Main Peak → (1.1km, 40 minutes) → Snow Mountain (雪山) Cirque → (2.7km, 100 minutes) → 369 Hut → (2.1km, 40 minutes) → Snow Mountain (雪山) East Peak → (3km, 155 minutes) → Seven Card Mountain Hut → (2km, 50 minutes) → Snow Mountain (雪山) Trailhead.

Additionally, during the winter and spring seasons, the main peak, cirque, and black forest of Snow Mountain (雪山) are prone to snow and ice accumulation, requiring the use of ice climbing equipment such as crampons for safe passage. During the snowy season, in addition to entry and climbing permits, hikers must also provide a ""Snow Climbing Equipment and Self-Check Form"" and proof of leader snow training certification to be granted entry.
