Yongchuan Beef Noodle

Almost every famous city or town has its own specialty in Taiwan, and when it comes to Zhongyi in Taoyuan, Taiwanese people immediately think of beef noodles (牛肉麵). Located in a market, and open 24 hours a day, Yongchuan Beef Noodle is much loved by many locals. Its strong and mildly spicy Sichuan style flavored soup, accompanied by big and chewy beef chunks imported from Australia, are boiled down for several hours, eventually bringing a beautiful flavor with every bite. At TWD110, a bowl of beef noodles is reasonably priced, especially because customers are welcome to add an extra serving of soup and noodles for no extra charge. No wonder the humble storefront is always crowded with diners and busy staff!

Because a “Beef Noodle Festival” was organized by the Taipei City Government several years ago, many foreigners assume that beef noodles are a dish that is supposed to be eaten in Taipei. But this is far from the truth! Beef noodles can be found all over Taiwan, such as Hsinchu’s Sichuan Duan Chunzhen Beef Noodle (四川段純貞牛肉麵), Taichung’s Laofuzi Beef Noodle (老夫子牛肉麵), and Wen Family Sichuan Beef Noodles (溫家川味牛肉麵館) in Chiayi. But beware - those beef noodle shops that are located at tourist attractions are definitely not authentic, nor respected by the local Taiwanese! Come to Yongchuan Beef Noodle instead!
