Lala Mountain is a lovely name with the meaning of ‘beautiful’ in the language of Taiya people. This forest reservation area in the middle of northern cross-island highway is six thousand hectares large with elevation ranging from 600 meters to 2000 meters. The opening area is merely thirty hectares large but the 3.7 kilometers trail was established well and not too difficult to finish. You can see twenty-two sacred trees from 500 years old to almost 3000 years old. If you have the special permit (if you have special identity) to go into the restricted area, you can find Taiwanese black bears, rock monkeys, peasants, and Formosan deer.

Although this area is famous for sacred trees, it is not well-known to foreign tourists. It becomes something precious among the scenic spots in Taiwan with the peaceful atmosphere in nature, and without the noisy tourists and street vendors.
