Old Taitung Mitaimu

Lao Dong Tai started as a food truck back in 1955, and now it has become an essential eat in Taitung — at least that’s what local and international guidebooks say. The third generation of the founding family is now at the helm, and the al dente mitaimu and the refreshing broth are still incredibly alluring and enticing foodies of all kinds.

The mitaimu are made from rice and tapioca flour and cooked to al dente perfection, and the clear broth is simmered for a good couple of hours with fresh local veggies and bones. Topped with a spoonful of tasty minced pork and sprinkled with a pinch of bonito flakes, an aromatic bowl of heaven is then ready to be served to you table. A tip from the connoisseurs though: add a little black vinegar on top, mix the yolk of the braised egg with the broth, eat the noodles, the broth and the veggies in one single bite — the taste in your mouth will explain everything. A wide variety of cold plates and side dishes are also available. The homemade XO sauce is a long-time favorite of many, but why not try a bowl of rice topped with scrambled eggs, veggies and seafood mixed with the popular XO sauce to find out why?
