The food scene in Taitung is less developed than that in Hualien. This is understandable, given that the population is just around 224,500 compared to a population of about 333,400 in Hualien, let alone the hordes of tourist that flock to Taroko Gorge every single day. But if you are visiting Taitung and have done some research about the city, Blue Dragonfly always makes it to the list of must-tries in Taitung City. Before McDonald’s came to town, Blue Dragonfly was the place where many locals had their very first experiences with fried chicken and French fries. After more than twenty years of operation, Blue Dragonfly is still standing in front of the Taitung County Government with a loyal crowd willing to fall in line under the scorching sun of the eastern Taiwan. Compared with other modern fast food chains, Blue Dragonfly gets graded down for the worn-out interior, poor service and dirty environment, but that doesn’t change the fact that it is still a favorite of locals and tourists alike who want to indulge themselves in the good old days.
Items on the menu include burgers and French fries, but most patrons come here for nothing for the Taiwanese fried chicken. The fingerlickin’ good fried chicken together with the crispy onion rings and the refreshing coke make the best summer lunchbox ever. However, we suggest you to avoid their milkshake. The price is tempting, but the taste is far from that.
