New Changhong Bridge

The New Changhong Bridge is located in Fengbin Township, Hualien County, Taiwan, spanning the Xiuguluan River and connecting the two villages of Jingpu and Gangkou. It is part of Taiwan's Provincial Route 11. This bridge has become a tourist attraction due to its beautiful design and the surrounding natural scenery. The New Changhong Bridge consists of two bridges: the Old Changhong Bridge and the New Changhong Bridge. Completed in 2003, the New Changhong Bridge stands out with its vibrant orange-red color, featuring a separation of lanes for vehicles and bicycles, along with various observation platforms that accommodate both pedestrians and cyclists.

From the New Changhong Bridge, visitors can not only gaze upon the magnificent Xiuguluan River basin but also take in the charming views of Xibulan Island. The observation platforms here offer excellent photo opportunities, especially for capturing the combination of the coastline and seagulls soaring in the air, which creates a stunning sight. Additionally, the area around the bridge offers a variety of water activities, such as paddleboarding and rafting, providing extra fun for water sports enthusiasts.

The history of the Changhong Bridge dates back to 1968 when the first-generation bridge was built as Taiwan's first cantilevering prestressed concrete bridge. With the increasing traffic demand, construction began on a second-generation bridge in 1998, designed as a steel arch bridge, reaching new technical heights and showcasing advancements in engineering.

Furthermore, the Gangkou village, adjacent to the New Changhong Bridge, has a strong cultural atmosphere reflective of the Amis people. Most residents here lead traditional lifestyles and preserve handicraft techniques such as bamboo weaving. Tourists can participate in cultural experience tours to gain deeper insights into the local way of life.

Nearby, Xibulan Island is a hotspot for birdwatching, displaying rich biodiversity through its unique environment and flora. The limestone boulders accumulated in the Xiuguluan River have also nurtured various ancient fossils, offering another source of inspiration for geology enthusiasts.

The New Changhong Bridge is not only a functional crossing but also a site that combines natural beauty, cultural vibrancy, and historical significance, attracting countless tourists eager to explore.
