Yuedong Recreation Area (月洞遊憩區) is located inside a cave at an elevation of 25 meters, offering a natural wonder created by the forces of nature. For those interested, it is recommended to visit if passing by during a trip. However, for those specifically planning to visit, it is advised to arrive early. Due to the narrow internal space, only one boat can enter at a time, accommodating up to eight people. If there is a large crowd, the waiting time may be longer. While photography is allowed inside, videography is not permitted and visitors should be mindful of this rule.
During the guided tour on the boat, the guide will carefully introduce the features of Yuedong, such as stalactites resembling Guan Gong, stone formations, fish fossils, swallow nest fossils, and subterranean streams. The most astonishing sight at the end of the cave is the numerous bats hanging upside down during hibernation. For those with a fear of crowded places, it is advisable to consider before entering. The cave maintains a consistent temperature throughout the year, with a higher number of bats in the winter and fewer in the summer.
The ticket prices for the recreation area are 100 for adults, 50 for children, and free for those under 12 years old. Children under four years old are not allowed to enter. This rule was established due to the area being a sacred place for ancestral worship in the past, as children would inexplicably cry inside and return to normal upon leaving. Only one boat is available, accommodating approximately eight to nine people for a 10-15 minute journey. There are around 26 parking spaces, and visitors need to climb three to four flights of stairs to reach the ticket office. Those with mobility issues should consider this. If there is a large crowd, ticket sales may be temporarily suspended, and the ticket counter will display estimated ticket sales times. Restrooms are available, and it is not recommended to go if the parking lot is full or if there are tour buses present.
