Zhaojing Temple

Located on Danfeng Mountain (丹鳳山) that is around a hundred meter above the sea level, Zhaojing Temple (照明淨寺) with a bird’s-eye view is a place where you can catch a sight of Guandu Plain, Danshui River mouth and the sunset at Mt. Guanyin. This temple was first built by an overseas Chinese, Yao Zhao-Ming, in order to redeem a vow for his mother in 1960s. Look like a Thailand-style temple, Zhaojing Temple with such a distinct architectural appearance has become a well-known spot in Beitou area.

The main deity here is Thousand-hand Guanyin, who serves as the patron for health, marriage, illumination and wealth. There used to have wax statues depicting mythical lovers in ancient China, Cowherd and the Weaving Girl, in the temple, earning itself the nickname of “Lover’s Temple”. It makes here a popular destination for lovers to make a wish. Take a close look at those wooden wish tablets hanging on the wish pavilion, probably you will want to make a wish as well.
