Sulfur Valley

Attraction stories

There are not many cities that have a dormant volcano brooding just one hour away by public transport – but Taipei is one of them. As the source of the thermal water in all of the hot spring centers in Beitou, Sulfur Valley is definitely the attraction site that hot spring lovers can’t miss. Sulfur Valley is located on the road to Yangmingshan. An indication that you have arrived is when you start to see white steam bubbling from the surface of the lake while you are driving. If you walk along the edge of the lake, you will be surprised by the unnatural turquoise color of the water. Perhaps it is the intensity of the sulfer here that helps the growth of the vegetation in the area; the color of leaves and flowers seem more bright and vivid. The sulfur nearby is also very obvious, and over tens of thousands years, geyser hasn’t stopped emitting from the fumaroles. Sometimes the geyser can reach as high as a five-storey building! As the hot spring water flowing under the earth forms the origin of the hot spring in Beitou, you will also see messy pipes conducting the water to resorts under the mountain. There is a hot spring pool for relaxing your feet near the parking lot, so take your shoes off and experience the healing effect of sulfur on your skin!
