It is quite difficult to find a nice traditional Taiwanese breakfast in Taipei, not to mention the downtown area where rent is excessively high. Thus, searching from the diners located away from the downtown may be a wise choice, and the chance of discovering nice breakfast diner in Shilin District where local residents are mostly gentry in early Taiwan may be higher than other places. Passing by Zhongzheng Road in Shilin District in the morning, you may see a lot of people waiting in lines in front of a diner. Even if you are not sure whether they visit here because Fengsheng Hao (豐盛號) has already been full or not, you would be tempted by the chefs who are in red uniforms and hustling back and forth for making shaobing (clay oven roll) and stuffed bun. The way of ordering is like general breakfast diner. Customer should wait in line, order, find a seat and pay the bill after finishing the meal. Shaobing (clay oven roll) and youtiao (fried bread stick) are all made on the spot, hot, fresh and delicious. However, the egg roll is quite normal, and the skin of stuffed bun is too thick. The flavor of both of them is satisfactory compared with others in Taipei, yet it would be unqualified to be served compared with those of the breakfast shops in central and southern Taiwan.
