Xiaokeda Oyster Vermicelli

Taiwanese people have a deep affection for “small eats,” from stinky tofu, oden to oyster vermicelli, and these goodness can all be found at the intersection of Jianguo N. Road and Changchun Road in an inconspicuous eatery named Xiaokeda.

The oyster vermicelli served here is rather light as the texture of the gravy is not overwhelmingly thick. Fresh oysters are delivered all the way from the Donggang Township of Pingtung, and the intestines are well prepared, flavorful and chewy. The crispy stinky tofu stands out with its original taste and simply a few drops of soy sauce on it; the pickled vegetables will add to the complexity as you bite in and leave you begging for more. The bowl loaded with turnips and oden and topped with their special sauce is literally a carnival of flavors and texture. The dining environment is far from satisfactory, but the delicious fare totally makes up for it.
