In all our time taking tourists around Taiwan, we have received many requests to help find places to buy authentic, high quality handmade goods. While there may be a famous area in Taiwan for vases and stoneware, another for paintings, and yet another for jewelry, it's rare to find a combination of premium artisan products in one place. The nonprofit, government affiliated Taiwan Handicraft Promotion Center (台灣手工業推廣中心) offers just that, with four floors of beautifully crafted products.
English speaking staff are on hand to answer any questions you may have and to make suggestions for gift ideas. It's easy to spend a whole afternoon in this no pressure market, as you discover the riches of Taiwanese culture. Moreover, a selection of items from Taiwan's minority ethnic groups are available, such as Hakka and indigenous tribal artistry. Oh, and we almost forgot to mention that the prices are some of the most reasonable at any craft shop in the country!
