Although Shijiu Izakaya is located in an obscure alley, its business is still remarkably good. Indeed, no matter whether it is a weekday or a holiday, if you don’t have a prior booking, you will probably need to queue outside at mealtimes. Inside the store, the seating is very clean, and there is none of the smoky smell common to many pubs. The most-ordered meal here would have to be Japanese-style yakitori (串燒), of which there are chicken, pork, beef and seafood varieties among a total of 26 flavors! Coupled with some good old-fashioned beer, this is great tasting, simple fare. But if you still feel hungry after the light yakitori, you might consider ordering some deep-fried side dishes, like yakisoba (Japanese- style fried noodles 日式炒麵) or fried fish (煎魚). Although there are not a huge number of choices of dishes here, the seafood yakitori in particular are well above average and worth a taste. But the most impressive item on offer would have to be the marshmallow roast sweet potatoes (棉花糖烤地瓜), which are soft and covered with melted candy. This is guaranteed to be a new taste for you! Although the speed of the food delivery here is not fast, the meals are of a pretty good quality. Just be warned – if you want to enjoy the tastiness of this Japanese cuisine, you will have to first wait patiently!
