Ms. Qin Soy Milk

It is always a pain in the neck to find some decent traditional breakfast places in Taipei. They are either overly packed with hungry people or hard to get to by public transportation — that is the difficulty that Taipei-ers need to cope with every single day. However, Ms. Qin Soy Milk ten minutes walk from Zhongxiao Dunhua Station is quite a rarity. This eatery is known for its unbeatable price, fast service, and of course, excellent food. The baked layered flatbread covered in white sesame served with a deep-fried breadstick or an omelette with chopped scallions will make a perfect start to your day. The Taiwanese omelette come in many different flavors, and the delightfully flavorful baos that are soft and puffy, all served fresh and hot directly from the steamer. With a truly nostalgic taste of those old military dependents’ villages, the scallion flatbread will please you with its handmade, simple and original touch. Items on the menu also include turnip cakes, cold noodles, rice balls, and many more.

This breakfast place sits right in a rustic neighborhood adjacent to a traditional market with most of the stalls manned by senior citizens, making it a rather laid-back area in the heart of Taipei. One negative is that the seating is on the pedestrian pavement and next to a main street, which may bother some people in the scorching summertime, so asking for a takeaway might be the better way out.
