House prices in Taipei’s Xinyi District are relatively high as a result of the construction of Taipei 101 and because many tourists visit the area. Therefore, although many different kinds of Western style restaurants have opened in the area, local residents still prefer to eat a cheap Taiwanese breakfast. But if you don’t make any effort looking for them, you probably won’t find the traditional delicacies hidden away in this district. The East meets West breakfast restaurant Jusen Breakfast Bar sells hamburgers which are familiar to Westerners but have also been modified to suit a Taiwanese taste. They also sell sandwiches, which are convenient for working people to take away, and hash brown potatoes, a must for an American breakfast. The Taiwanese favorite of omelet, also called danbing (蛋餅), is also available as a set meal for TWD70, along with teppanyaki pork noodles and milk tea. Local residents and foreign tourists alike can find their favorite taste here. Even though the restaurant is scarcely decorated, and there is no air conditioning in summer, you are sure to enjoy sitting in the shaded outdoor seating area in this residential district, slowly having breakfast in this fast paced city.
