Aside from the famous beef noodles (牛肉麵) and iced mango (芒果冰), there are also many popular Taiwanese-style restaurants that both locals and tourists love at Yongkang Shopping District. Among them, Fengsheng Restaurant is a flagship restaurant serving up Hakka cuisine. An indication of the popularity of this place is the fact that if you don’t have a reservation in advance, there will be no seats left. The interior design features traditional farmhouse style roundtables, while the walls are decorated with red couplets and Hakka fabric. As a result, the entire space seems to be imbued with the flavour of Taiwan.
The food at Fengsheng Restaurant is not bad at all. The oil chicken (油雞) is very fragrant and the texture is tender. The oysters used are fresh and the stinky tofu with millionaire egg (皮蛋臭豆腐) is flavorful. When you bite gently into the egg, some of the soup from the base will also meet your tongue. This is the good taste of a not too greasy, hearty meal. The ingredients used in the store mimic the display methods used for Japanese sashimi, having been placed in a transparent freezer, demonstrating that the restaurant is completely confident about the quality of its fresh ingredients. Sitting comfortably at the tables inside, the price of TWD300 seems a light weight to bear when you consider how it compares to the standard price in the Taipei area and the level of comfort provided. Fengsheng Restaurant can be said to be a very affordable, and tasty choice.
