Because of the increased popularity of online shopping and information access, it is harder for traditional shopping channels to survive nowadays. Taiwanese department stores, with the recognition that enjoying food and gathering with friends are hard to be replaced by the Internet, have intended to develop an edge in catering business. Even though its profit is lower than that of merchandise, catering business can bring a lot of customers and thus boost the sales of the department store.
Vicky’s BBQ House, sited beside the Ferris wheel in Miramar Entertainment Park, is one of the few Mongolian BBQ restaurants that still open in Taipei. On holidays, you will have to wait in line if you do not make a reservation in advance. Customer can take a bowl and grab anything he/she likes in the ingredient area where beef, mutton, pork, tofu and condiments like scallion and chili and so on are available. Customer should take the chosen ingredients to the kitchen for chefs to cook immediately. The chefs would pour the ingredients to the round metal heated pot and rapidly stir them with chopsticks of a near 60 cm’s length. Customers can decide the flavor, salty or spicy. As it is an all-you-can-eat restaurant, you can help yourself and get as much as you want. There are even soups, fruit, desert and beverages on the bar.
