Riverside Park

Originally, the riverside parks are built to utilize the unused space outside the dikes. Although flood doesn’t strike Taipei every year, the city cannot afford one devastating flood. Therefore, high walls were erected along the river bank, and the government further built bicycle tracks, basketball courts, as well as the meadow in the space between the walls and the river. People may come to the recreation grounds on holidays. Today, there are several riverside parks along every major river in Taipei. Several parks even boast holiday bazaars to visit. You may also see some foreigners sitting on blankets taking a picnic on the grass.
