Named one of the world’s weirdest theme restaurants by CNN, Modern Toilet uses the bathroom as a venue for dining that has you eating out of mini urinals while sitting on an actual toilet bowl. Dishes are served in miniature bathtubs while drinks come in pint-sized plastic urinals. Sometimes, diners are just confused whether it’s time to eat or to pee.
Items on the menu include Italian cuisine, hot pots and exotic dishes, all served in an amusing setting. Be careful here: the name of the popular shaved ice is neither tempting nor appetizing, and the pièce de résistance is the chocolate ice cream served in a tiny squat toilet and swirled to give it the appearance of poop — viewer discretion is advised.
The restaurant has many locations all around Taiwan, and the one at Ximending is the most visited. Looking for a potty-filled experience in Taiwan? Modern Toilet is the place to go. But we are being very honest with you here: as interesting as this theme restaurant can be, the food isn't really that good. Or maybe it is good enough, but the whole environment might have contributed to our judgment of the food's taste.
