If you had to choose the best three Thai restaurants in Taipei, then Mae-Kung Thai Restaurant situated near the Zhongxiao Dunhua MRT Station would have to be one of them. It makes the list not only because its taste is authentic, but also because its décor is understated, meaning that diners can enjoy their food without being bothered by noisy music or a loud TV. Indeed, this restaurant is nothing like the normal Thai restaurants of Taiwan, which tend to have a grubby appearance both inside and out.

Pandanus chicken (香蘭雞), where the meat is wrapped in leaves and accompanied by a very tasty Thai sauce, is worth a try. And although the fried rice with crab meat and pineapple (鳳梨飯) does not look exactly like the one on the menu when it appears, accompanied with refried curry rice and kidney beans, it is still delicious choice. Basically, anything with seafood in it and you’re bound to have chosen well!

Adding to the experience of travelling to Thailand, the staff wearing clothes from Southeast Asia is a nice touch. But be warned- there are always people waiting for a seat here, so it recommended to first make a reservation.
