Shenweixiang Guzaowei

Shenweixiang Guzaowei is a snack bar located in Tainan’s Guanmiao (關廟). Although its storefront is rather plain, the signboard with red characters on an orange background under the marquee lets you know there is something here after all! This restaurant is similar to those you often find in Taiwan: the price is not high, and the interior decoration is nothing special. In short, this is the sort of place where locals appreciate dining. And although the ground pork dry noodles (肉燥乾麵) may taste a little bland to those who eat strong flavored food often, if you order some boiled vegetables, the rich garlic flavor gives a nice kick to the dry noodles. The most interesting snack on offer here is the golden fried dumplings (黃金煎餃), for which the chef has neatly arranged the dumplings in rows before breaking an egg over them. After frying them up until they are golden colored, they are placed on the table for guests. Best of all, while eating the dumplings, you can enjoy the tasty smell of fried eggs, such that the color, taste and appearance all match beautifully. Next time you come to Longqi Wenheng Temple or Niupu Mudstone, don’t forget Shenweixiang Guozaowei as a great choice if you are looking for authentic Taiwan cuisine.
