Qigu Lagoon

Attraction stories

Qigu Lagoon is the remains of Old Taijiang Inner Sea from more than three hundred years ago; nowadays, with a rich biodiversity of marine life, it’s thriving with a vibrant oyster farming industry. On an isolated sandbar away from the shore, you will find the vast forests of Australian pine trees and creeping vines (the beach morning glory) growing wild on the shore. It’s also one of the best birdwatching locations in the world. At the beginning of winter, hoards of twitchers will flood in from abroad and around Taiwan to enjoy the sight and sound of some native birds and those just passing through.

The best way to travel around here is by boat. There are many boats operators in the area for you to choose, but the tours and services are pretty much the same — an ecological trip through the lagoon with all-you-can-eat grilled oysters onsite. A guide will explain to you in details everything about Qigu Lagoon, from history to ecology and fishing industry, and you will also have an opportunity to experience yourself how to harvest oysters from beds by hand. The all-you-can-be event can be scheduled either before or after the boat ride, and oysters are freshly caught and therefore especially plump and coveted — for sure it’s going to be an educational and delicious experience for visitors of all ages.
