Koxinga Ancestral Shrine

Attraction stories

On the bustling Zhongyi Road of Tainan sits an ancient red brick house that boasts some quaint features particularly the finely-worked window grills in the shape of bottles. The nostalgic appearance doesn't really fit in with the neighborhood, but it is the first shrine in Taiwan dedicated to the patriotic hero Zheng Cheng-gong, better known by his Hokkien honorific Koxinga.

The abandoned well by the entrance has been there from the very beginning of the establishment but is no longer in use. Upon entering, you will be greeted by the statues of Zheng Cheng-gong and his mother on your left-hand side. The main hall venerates the ancestors and sages of Zheng family as well as Zheng Cheng-gong himself. Named a national historic site, Zheng Ancestral Shrine is now open to the public and admission is free.
