Located in Houbi District, Tainan, Jingliao Village is a small, unfamiliar place for most people. Yet people may be reminded of the agricultural village by another name of it—Let It Be (無米樂). A same-titled film illustrates the farmers' optimistic attitude toward life, making the little-known village a tourist attraction. However, although Jingliao Village has appeared in travel books, there are usually not many tourists in the village. Therefore, unlike too-commercialized old streets, Jingliao Village keeps most of its original look. Walk on the old streets, you can see the elders sitting under the shade chatting after meal, grannies hanging their clothes on bamboo poles in front of their houses, and grandpas putting a cloth on the ground selling fruits and vegetables beside the street. Then take a close look on the surrounding environment. Red brick low houses, wooden sliding doors, and stone-paved streets make a serene picture, making you slow down your pace unconsciously to savor the rare tranquility. Enter different houses, you will see ancient screens, cooking utensils, and sewing machines. What’s more, there stand a pharmacy filled with Chinese medicines, a dining room made by a round table decorated with Hakka floral fabrics, a watch repair shop still providing service, and a traditional rice mill with complete equipment. Of course, there are also abandoned houses and cars behind the street. No beverage bars, no food stalls. The only thing you experience at Jingliao Village is a simple rural life.
