Fusheng Hao

Attraction stories

For a long time, rice has been the staple food of the Taiwanese, meaning that the wide variety of rice products on offer continues to be developed today, and that each one represents the accumulation of the wisdom of the ancestors. Steamed rice bowl cake (碗粿) is one such dish. The place to buy it is of course Tainan City’s Yongle Market on Guohua Street, where there are many local delicacies on offer. Aside from Yongle Grilled Pork Rice (永樂燒肉飯), there are also Jinde Spring Rolls (金得春捲), Shuixiangong Herbal Tea (水仙宮青草茶), Xiaonan Rice Cake (小南米糕), and the not to be missed Fusheng Hao, which sells steamed rice bowl cake.

Having developed from its origin operating out of a cart to having two successful stores today, the achievement of 70 years of hard work is held in your hands in the form of a delicious bowl cake. Today, this recipe is still being made by hand; there is no way it can be recreated using a machine. Using 100% Taiwanese rice, fresh pork and fire shrimps caught daily, there are no artificial additives in the food here. Everything is fresh, and tastes it. Because soy sauce and ground pork is added to the bowl cake, it becomes a blackish color and has a strong taste, making it a really delicious example of the dish. If accompanied by a bowl of fish soup, it is one of the most authentic dishes you can eat in Tainan. Most stalls in markets are designed to provide take-away food only so if you want to sit inside, remember to walk a couple of streets on until you reach the Minzu Road (民族路) branch. There are many wall fans here, so no need to worry about the scorching southern Taiwan heat!
