Furong Repasts

Situated in Tainan’s West Market, Furong Repasts has been continuously operating since 1923, the Japanese colonial period in Taiwan. West Market was formerly the largest market in southern Taiwan, but has gradually declined over the years. Nevertheless, the loyal clientele of Furong Repasts has been unshakeable over its almost century-long history. In fact, Furong Repasts has become one of the main reasons why people still come to West Market today.

The originally shabby storefront has been refurbished with the help of government subsidies, turning it into a more friendly-seeming vendor that is attractive to international travelers. Not only is the menu available in English and Japanese, as well as Mandarin, but the history of this iconic street vendor is also written in the three languages on the walls. Although both are selling noodles, compared to Yanshui Yi Noodles (鹽水意麵), the noodles here are thicker, and have a sweet and salty seasoning to accompany them. A lot of people think that the Yi Noodles at Furong Repasts are even better than the famous Yanshui Atong Yi Noodles (阿桐意麵)! Why not have a try and find out for yourself?
