Niupu Mudstone

Located in Tainan’s Longqi, Niupu Mudstone is a fascinating education park set on the site of an unusual natural geological formation. Because the park’s yellow sand soil and limestone geology has a low resistance to corrosion, after many years of weathering, bare mudstone has been formed, creating a barren surface that looks like the surface of the Moon. This makes for an other-worldly atmosphere. It takes about half an hour to walk around the outside of the lake, where there is a pavilion in the middle. In fact, the pavilion is situated below the water level, meaning that when you go inside to have a rest in the shade, you will find that your eyes are exactly as high as the ground level. It is a very interesting experience indeed! However, after heavy rains, the water will drown the pavilion, so when it is raining, it is recommended not to stay in the gazebo. If you have enough physical strength, you can consider walking for another half an hour to Heavenly Pond (天池) where there are even better views overlooking the fascinating layers of mudstone in the hillside.
