Pass the busy roundabout beside National Museum of Taiwan Literature. Then you easily discover a yellow circular building located beside the road. Feeling curious about its weird chimney? The building is the Museum of Meteorology. Built in 1898, the former Tainan Weather Observatory has been nicknamed Pepper Tube because of its unique design. Renovated into Museum of Meteorology today, the building is not only the origin of Taiwan's meteorological observation since the Japanese Colonial Era. It is also a rare huge building in the era when it was built.

Since 1898, the building had carried out its function about a century under the rule of Japanese and the Nationalist Government (KMT). It has not been rebuilt even to today. Since the building has become obsolete, part of its meteorological observation business was gradually transferred to the South Weather Bureau, and the former Weather Observatory was listed as a national historic monument since 2003. Nowadays, the museum exhibits various observation tools used to measure the atmosphere, wind direction, and earthquakes since the Japanese Colonial Era. It's a wonderful place for family trip. Step into the time corridor in the 18-agon building with your family to appreciate the scene of observing weather which can be traced back to more than 100 years ago.
