Food in Taiwan is very diverse, with many options to choose from. You probably can’t imagine just how many delicacies from all different provinces of China were introduced when the Kuomintang (KMT) retreated to Taiwan. In Taiwan today, noodles from north China is most popular, along with other Chinese provincial foods. But unlike American fast-food or hot pot restaurants, which have opened up restaurant chains all over Taiwan, you rarely see noodle restaurant chains. With investment from the famous electronics store Tsann Kuen Enterprise (燦坤3C), Wuhuama Dumpling House now has more than forty branches in Taiwan. Its clean, bright and spacious dining environment, beats the stereotype that noodle restaurants are always narrow and dim. The fact that every table is identified by the name of a famous poet or emperor of Chinese history instead of by table number also adds to its refreshing style. As for what to order, it doesn’t matter whether you choose cold noodles (涼麵), great in summer, or soup dumplings (xiaolongbao, 小籠包), widely favoured by foreigners, all the meals sold here are above average. Hong Kong dim sum, including delicacies such as carrot cake (蘿蔔糕) and shumai (燒賣), is also very good. Scallion pancakes (蔥油餅) and beef burrito (牛肉卷餅) are recommended for their crisp skins and rich fillings. Such good cuisine is not normally associated with a low price electronics chain store!
