Suhang Restaurant

The seemingly modest small restaurant has a reputation that lures locals to visit it for its authentic Chinese cuisine. Because the restaurant has limited seats, and the table for making xiaolongbao stands in the corner at the entrance, the space inside the restaurant seems to be narrow. Apart from some common dishes in many restaurants, such as suhang doufu (Suzhou and Hangzhou-style bean curd, 蘇杭豆腐), fried yinsijuan (fried silver thread roll ,炸銀絲卷), suanlamian (hot and sour noodles, 酸辣麵), and huiguorou (twice cooked pork, 回鍋肉), specialties in Suhang Restaurant are the dishes cooked with Qicai (shepherd's purse, 薺菜). An ingredient for Chinese herbal diet, the plant growing in the mountains or wild fields is said to have the effect to lower blood pressure and to prevent cancer. The most recommended dish is qicai chao niangao (soft rice cake fried with shepherd's purse, 薺菜炒年糕), whose distinctive flavor and chewy texture are unable to find in other restaurants.
