Master of Mushroom

You better like mushrooms if you come here- the name of this place is made up of the characters “god” and “mushroom” in Chinese! Located in Xinshe, a district famous both for its flower gardens and extensive mushroom crops, it would be a shame not to try the local mushrooms while visiting. Indeed, some say that if you come to Xinshe and don’t eat a mushroom feast, it is about as bad as going to Shilin Night Market and not eating large fried chicken!

The main dish on offer here is hot pot, of which an important ingredient is (of course!) mushrooms. The staff will come over to your table to teach you how to cook all of your organic mushrooms properly in the hot pot. Alternatively, if you are visiting with a large group of friends, you can also order a selection of Chinese dishes to share. In addition to the hot food on offer, there are also dried mushroom goods ready for purchase by visitors who want to cook up some delicious mushroom-inspired dishes when they get back home.

Apart from great food, the dining setting here is also very comfortable. There are two floors for dining, the upper of which features beautiful wooden tables that still retain the uniqueness of the wood. The restaurant also has a wooden interior, giving it a homely feeling. Because it is situated in a mountainous region, when the weather is good you can see beautiful scenery and breathe in the fresh air blowing across the mountain. You will even be able to see strange shapes in the mountain that occurred as a result of the 921 Earthquake. This is a highly recommended addition to a trip to Xinshe, Taichung for mushroom-lovers!
