Good Work

For those who have not first done their homework and just pass by here, Good Work may not seem like much of a distinctive restaurant. From the outside, it looks something like a dilapidated old iron factory. But once you open the door to look inside, you will find an impressive two floors above ground as well as a large basement space. The walls here use a Japanese popular Shimizu concrete design, so in the afternoon, the sunlight bounces off them to create a space full of light.

Inside, Good Work provides the abundance of space that is almost unheard of in the downtown of Taipei, with plenty of room between the tables so that customers who are discussing business can talk freely without fear of being heard or disturbed by those nearby. As well as demonstrating what a successful integration of a modern industrial style with elements of traditional Taiwanese life looks like, the interior décor’s most impressive feature is the bright yellow container that has been adapted as a bar, as well as the bamboo ladder which leads to a bookshelf on the second floor. Underground, there are occasional exhibitions held by designers and artists which are worth a look.

This place is relatively remote compared to some other restaurants in Taichung. So if you come here, make sure to visit Tunghai University (東海大學), Tunghai Night Market (東海夜市), Tunghai International Art Street (東海國際藝術街) and Wanggaoliao (望高寮) while you are nearby!
