Good Days

Good Days is another investment by Lavender Cottage, meaning it is bound to be lovely. The main food on offer here is a healthy vegetarian fusion of traditional Chinese delicacies with simple Western desserts. It provides a warm and comfortable open kitchen for dining. As in the original Lavender Cottage, there is none of the haughtiness or preciousness of atmosphere common to many modern cafes here. Instead, guests are greeted at the door, recommendations from the menu are happily made and until you leave, the patience and care of the staff members is warmly felt in the space.

At the checkout near the entrance, there is a long display table stocked with all kinds of boutique items that can be used for cooking, such as condiments and jam, many sorts of utensils, wall decorations and a huge bookshelf full of recipe books that make suggestions for how customers can create their own good home cooking. In fact, the restaurant also opens monthly cooking courses for the public.

While many bloggers tend to classify this restaurant as a brunch place, the manager has emphasised that they originally only provided lunch and dinner! However, as a result of the mistake made by bloggers, the restaurant has increased the hours of operation in order to meet the expectations of their online reviewers! The most interesting thing of all here has got to be the traditional Taiwanese breakfast on offer. Using ingredients from “a previous era”, such as millet (麵茶), black sesame (黑芝麻), rice cakes (米香), dough sticks (油條) and salty peanuts (鹹花生).The food is presented beautifully in European style little bowls accompanied with cute utensils, making it a very different experience from eating Taiwanese breakfast from a street stall and well worth a try!
