Gengdu Garden

There is a rustic, elegant Chinese manor named Gengdu Garden sitting quietly in the middle of this concrete jungle of the Taichung metropolitan area. The pond in the middle is well stocked with carp, and mirrored in the placid waters is the nostalgic backdrop of the wooden pavilion, where sometimes you get to hear people playing the Chinese zither or other Chinese orchestral instruments. The quaint exteriors and interiors of the restaurant successfully creates a peaceful ambiance of Jiangnan, and this nostalgic tea house allows diners to experience a tranquil sense of escape while feasting in absolute comfort.

Gengdu Garden is a hybrid restaurant/tea house, offering tea, snacks, beverages, set meals, hot pots, and many more. All the tea leaves are carefully sourced from selected tea farms in Alishan, Sun Link Sea and Lishan. While sipping your tea, you should also try the signature finger food Rolling Donkey, a traditional Chinese sweet originally from Beijing. It is like a cake roll except with a rice cake base and a red bean paste filling rolled in the peanut powder. The golden-ish powder will rise as if some little donkeys were rolling in the dust, hence the name. The hot pot loaded with generous servings of ingredients is a favorite of many, and the Dongpo pork with bamboo shoots is another signature dish here. The perfectly braised pork is incredibly tender and doesn't get any softer as it melts in your mouth. Served with several other side dishes, the soup of the day and a steaming bowl of rice, this dish will be no doubt the star of your table.
