Ergua Stinky Tofu

Don’t be put off by the fact that this restaurant sells stinky tofu. When stinky tofu is done well, it is really really good. And at Ergua Stinky Tofu, it is done well! In fact, if you had to choose the best three stinky tofu vendors in Taiwan, this modest little shop that only nearby residents know about would absolutely make the cut. Since setting up its original stall, business has been getting better and better. Now, it has moved into its own shop, and after more than ten years of hard work, has even rented the shop next door. And from its original focus on just selling stinky tofu, the dishes on offer here have expanded to include Korean kimchi, braised pork rice (魯肉飯) and oyster soup. But the modest beginnings of this restaurant have not been entirely forgotten, with a night market style stall standing out the front of the restaurant.

Nor has the exceptional quality of the food reduced since its humble beginnings. Fried golden crispy tofu accompanied by pickled cabbage and cucumber, then dipped in a little garlic chilli sauce is a delicious meal. After eating it, customers can taste the flavors in their mouth long afterwards. As well as tofu, another must-order has got to be the large intestine vermicelli noodles (大腸麵線). Although to find good vermicelli noodles is not at all difficult in Taiwan, the tofu that goes with them at Ergua makes it even yummier than most other places.
