Located on the western side of peninsula, Maobitou defines the sea border of Taiwan Strait and Bashi Channel. The Chinese name, “Maobitou”, means the head of a cat. It is because one of the rocks here looks like the side of a cat’s head. The strong wave beats the coral rock shore and erodes the surface day and night. Be careful, you don’t want to fall over on the sharp rocks. However, it is a perfect place to see the waves forming from all directions due to the gusting wind and hidden rocks beneath the water. It is also a great place to see the magnificent stars at night. In Taiwan, we hardly can see the southern cross which can be easily seen in the Southern Hemisphere. Kenting will be the best candidate to see it between April and June.
