Despite its proximity to Duxing 10th Village, where Japanese houses have been erected, Juguang New Village has an architectural style different from that of Duxing 10th Village. Residences here are made of gray tiles and basalt, and most of its former residents were relatives of the officers serving in authorities under the Penghu Defense Command. Today, the Penghu County Government has rediscovered the village, transforming it into a shopping district featuring special cultures. Because the former residents in Juguang New Village were immigrants from various Chinese provinces, they accordingly introduced their homelands’ food culture to Penghu, which then fused with Penghu’s local flavor, forming a shopping district focusing on special dietary cultures. Dishes served here include Tianjin (天津) xiaolongbao, Jiangxi (江西) hot pots, Xinjiang (新疆) cuisines, and so on. A cup of tea or a glass of cold beer is also available here. However, because the number of tourists decreases in winter, the tourism off-season, many stores do not open during the period. It is recommended that you visit Juguang New Village in summer.
