No.40, Zhongyang St., Magong City, Penghu County 880, Taiwan (R.O.C.)

Preserving freshwater has been difficult in Penghu due to its island terrain. Because freshwater has been a very precious resource, water for household use mainly come from groundwater and desalinated seawater. Four Eyes Well, located beside the Central Old Street, has a history of over 400 years, which can be traced back to the Ming dynasty. It is said that originally the well was a big one, and that it was intentionally remodeled into a four-eye design—as it is today—for safety and discipline concerns. Also, today's Zhongyang Old Street was once named "Big Well Street," which was derived from the well.

Beside the well stands an established Chinese pharmacy, selling an iconic product "Qianyi Tang Herbal Egg." Although the egg seems to have the same appearance as tea eggs sold in convenience stores, it only takes one bite to discover the aroma of Chinese medicine filled in the herbal egg. If you're getting hungry after shopping, don't forget to come here to sample the local snack.
