Penis God Temple

Taiwan boasts a variety of religions, and there are temples and shrines venerating all kinds of deities and beings, even the penis. Yes, you heard me. The penis – or rather, phallus – is considered to be a symbol of good luck and also a representative of fertility. Located in Wanli District, Penis God Temple is said to be one of the only two penis temples in Taiwan. Two distinct golden penis statues stand by the entrance, and another giant penis statue is being worshipped at the altar. Rumor has it that anyone who touches the sacred statue will be blessed with a fulfilling sex life. Some are here to pray for fertility or/and a new baby.

Penis God Temple is alongside the Wankan Industrial Road, leading from the city center of Wanli District to Wuzhi Mountain. Masu River running behind the temple is a photographer's delight, which still remains a lesser-known spot at the moment. At the height of summer, the river provides the ideal way to cool down and enjoy the sun.
