Xiaozishan

Located in the Pingxi District of New Taipei City, Xiaozishan is a popular hiking destination as the short trail is easy to find, follow and hike. A circular route of stone steps is very well established here, but you must hold on tight to the railing or the rope in order to go uphill. The last part of the hike includes an almost vertical hill; before reaching the top of the mountain, you need walk through a flight of hanging steel stairs. Now, it might sound quite intimidating, but that fact is: you can easily enjoy a bird's-eye view of Keelung River Valley as long as you keep your balance.

The most accessible entrance to the trail is right next to a waterfall located on the County Highway No. 106. The trail starts along the creek, where potholes and river valley landscape will amaze you along the way. Some native plants such as begonia formosana and lilium speciosum will add an extra dimension to the hike. A round trip will take about two to three hours depending on your motivation. When you finally reach the top, expect a stunning view with the nostalgic towns of Pingxi and Jingtong in the distance.
