Fulong is a sandspit where beach activities are abundant as well as one of the most popular summer destinations in northern Taiwan. The Fulong International Sand Sculpture Festival takes place from May to July, and the iconic Hohaiyan Rock Festival is another reason why people flock here under the scorching sun. Visitors can also cycle along the coast as there is a very well-established bike trail. Make sure you grab a yummilicious “railway bento” around the train station. This single-portion takeout comes in only one flavor but is loaded with many different kinds of hearty ingredients.
Beaches located near the mouths of rivers have better sand for sculpting as it is not worn down by the surf, and Fulong Beach is the best place in Taiwan to build some sand sculptures as the sand here is mostly pure quartz (sticking together better than other kinds), soft and cool on the feet. For accommodation, you can choose between guesthouses, hotels, and even a campsite just a stone’s away from the beach.
