Kids find the utmost joy in running on the lush green field, flying kites and being entertained with playground slides — this is an everyday scene at the Children’s Park in Zhongxing New Village. Covering a vast area of scenic landscapes, the village itself is unique and significant in terms of the tangled history between Taiwan and China.

The grand boulevard lined with towering coconut trees leads up to the entrance of Zhongxing New Village, and the story started here. Inspired by the Greater London Plan, this planned community was built up in 1957 to achieve the best urban design outcomes. Inside, you can still find some British charm at the clock tower and the garden. Wandering through these historic buildings is like talking a stroll down memory lane in the history of Taiwan. You may also grab your bike, cycling along the boulevard shaded by tall, thick-spreading trees, or spend the whole afternoon under the banyan tree, enjoying the utter tranquility away from the city.

Many locals come for the vast green field and a line of old trees, where they can chill for the whole day. Photography enthusiasts enjoy venturing into the abandoned, derelict houses, while foodies are drawn here for culinary surprises such as the enticing beef noodles and the refreshing plum juice.
