As there is no opportunity to buy cheap and delicious food around Sun Moon Lake, do not forget to fill up in Puli before you arrive at the iconic destination. Mingyuan Sichuan Restaurant is particularly highly recommended. Although this restaurant calls itself a Sichuan cuisine outlet, most of its meals are not so famously spicy as those really found in Sichuan, and many have even been mixed with characteristics from northern cuisine. Scallion pancakes (蔥油餅) are particularly worth a try, and are especially good for those for fear spice- even mild spice! In addition, pineapple shrimp balls (鳳梨蝦球), teppanyaki beef (鐵板牛柳), pickled pork and cabbage hot pot (酸菜白肉鍋) and bamboo strip (甘蔗筍) are all well worth tasting, if you have room to fit them all in. Because Mingyuan Sichuan Restaurant is very well known in the village, business is very, very good at mealtimes, and locals can often be seen lining up for dinner. If you come here to dine yourself, be prepared to wait a little while! But be assured, the wait is well worth it for some good old fusion dishes that can suit every palate.
