Mesler

Many Kuomintang (KMT) troops were left on the Thai-Burmese border immediately after World War II. Later, following international pressure in 1953 and 1960, these soldiers retreated from the Thai and Myanmar borders with China to the island of Taiwan, where the KMT had retreated as a result of the Chinese civil war. After their relocation to Taiwan, the KMT government sent a part of the army to Cingjing Farm to cultivate the wild land. As a result of this history, Cingjing farm still retains the flavor of Burma, even today.

Or if you want a taste of Yunan cuisine, the Chinese homeland of many of the KMT troops, Mesler is your best bet on Cingjing Farm. Hidden in Bowang New Village (博望新村) Mesler’s name is derived from the original army stationed in a village in northern Thailand. Here, you can enjoy delicious fried tofu (炸豆腐), or Xianghe beef (香荷牛肉), mountain cabbage (高山高麗菜) and Da-Pao pork (打拋豬肉), which are all very popular with tourists. As well as enthusiastic ladies waiting at the door to greet you, old photos hanging on the wall here also tell the past history of KMT troops in Thai and Myanmar borders with China, as well as the story of the hardships that the new arrivals faced when reclaiming this mountain. The modern tourist destination and Bed & Breakfast region would not have been possible without the toil of these hard laborers. If you come Cingjing farm, absolutely don’t miss Mesler for a meal rich in taste and history!
